In the last few weeks, I have spent a lot of time about this life we live and how short it really is. That’s why this song from stands out to me. Scripture has the same theme as well…

Man is like a breath; his days are like a passing shadow. – Psalm 144:4

Yet you do not know what tomorrow will bring. What is your life? For you are a mist that appears for a little time and then vanishes. Instead you ought to say, “If the Lord wills, we will live and do this or that.” – James 4:14-15

When it comes to this song from Switchfoot, I think the chorus and the second verse make the strongest point…

Life is short; I wanna live it well
One life, one story to tell
Life is short; I wanna live it well
And you’re the one I’m living for
Awaken all my soul
Every breath that you take is a miracle
Life is short; I wanna live it well, yeah
I wanna sing with all my heart a lifelong song
Even if some notes come out right and some come out wrong
‘Cause I can’t take none of that through the door
Yeah, I’m living for more than just a funeral
I wanna burn brighter than the dawn

The deep desire of the heart should be to want to live this life well. What better gift can we give back to the LifeGiver but then to live our life well bringing the Glory back to our God who deserves it.

I also like the fact that these lyrics acknowledge the fact that we will not be perfect but we can still make a positive difference even if “some notes come out right and some come out wrong.”

Check out the video below and listen closely to the lyrics, they have a great message about finishing well.
